1 Week Old!

We went to the doctors last Friday and Katelyn weighed 6 pounds 13 ounces. The doctor was a little concerned about some yellow coloring she had so he wanted me to watch out for jaundice. I think she is just fine though. Nursing has been going okay. Sometimes she feeds good and sometimes it is just a disaster but we will figure it all out soon enough. I have fallen in love with this little girl.

Weekend Guests!

This weekend Katelyn had some guests come and visit her. Uncle Kenny came on Saturday but I forgot to take a picture. Uncle Kenny is Katelyn's Godfather.

On Sunday....
Aunt Jill came

And Uncle DanAnd Uncle Rob

Adam Loves Being a Big Brother!

So Adam loves Katelyn. He always wants to be by her. He loves to help change her diaper and get her up from her naps. He likes to kiss her and hug her. When she cries he wants to give her a hug to make everything all better. He is such a sweet big brother. I hope it continues.

This is the video of Adam meeting Katelyn for the first time!

Saturday Morning Play

Here is Adam showing his sister how to play in the rain forest. He loves to give her kisses and say, "HI BABE-BE!"
Katelyn is a very sleepy baby so far. She is fussy when she eats but loves to sleep. The first night we brought her home she slept from midnight to 5. She did the same thing the second night and today she slept until 6:30. So that was very nice.

Katelyn

Kevin's mom came over to help me out tonight. It was so nice to have her here! Katelyn and Adam both got to spend some quality time with their Grandma.
Holding Daddy's finger.

My mom came over Thursday to help me while Kevin was at work.
It was so nice to have her help. She wore pink in Katelyn's honor.

Welcome to the World Katelyn Eleanor!

So... I have been a little busy this week. Sunday night, I had back pain and some cramping. I thought it might be the beginning of labor but I wasn't sure. I started seriously packing for the hospital and getting everything ready. That night I had some minor contractions from midnight to 4am. When I woke up at 6am Monday morning, I felt fine. Kevin left for work and I stayed home with Adam since I didn't have school that day. I got out of bed and WOOSH! My water broke. It wasn't what I thought it would be like when my water broke. I called the doctor to confirm. Then I called Kevin and my brother to come over and watch Adam because I was directed to go to the hospital. I wasn't having contractions though so I was in no hurry.

Last picture of us as a family of 3. We left for the hospital and left Adam with my brother, Dave the first night and Aunt Mary the second night. Thank you so much Aunt Mary and Dave for taking care of our little man.

So I got to the hospital and still had no contractions. They told me I could wait around and see what happened naturally or I could start some Pitocin to get contractions started. So I started the Pitocin. My body responded to it very well when I had Adam so I figured it would do the same with this baby. I started the Pitocin around 11:00. I got for an epidural around 3:00. It made my left side numb but still had pain on the right side. It was still better than nothing. At 4:00 the nurse checked me and told me I was dilated to a 5. She came back at 4:30 and told me I was at a 10 and it was time to push. I was shocked!

Thumbs up for pushing!
It took longer for the doctors to get all their scrubs on than it took me to push the baby out.
3 1/2 pushes later and the baby was out. I couldn't believe how quickly everything happened. Katelyn was 7 pounds and 21 inches long.

We had been struggling on what we were going to name this precious baby girl. We had been stuck on Katelyn, Brooke and Ashley for a LONG time. Kevin's #1 name has been Katelyn for a long time. I kept going back and forth. I looked at Kevin before I started pushing and said, "We can name her Katelyn." We both love the name Kate and the "lyn" part comes from Kevin's mom, whose middle name is Lynn.
Katelyn's middle name is Eleanor which is my mom's middle name.

All during my pregnancy I kept thinking about this moment they would lay her on my chest and I would get to see my daughter for the first time. So amazing!

Me and my daughter. So many shopping trips ahead of us!

My parents holding our sweet baby girl.

Kevin's parents with Katelyn.

Adam came up and had to wait for a couple hours before he could see Katelyn so he was a little crazy. He loved the buttons on my bed.

When he saw her he said "BABY!" and he went to give her a hug and kiss.

He also tried to give her one of his cars and a pretzel goldfish... what a sweet big brother.

Everyone wanted to meet Katelyn. My brother and Karen came up.

So did Kevin's brother Dave and Kristin.

My brother Joe, Billie Jo and Joey came up too. Joey was apparently upset that we named the baby Katelyn. He was pulling for Brooke.

Katelyn already has her daddy wrapped around her little finger.

Napping together at the hospital.

Ready to go home. Katelyn is so tiny. She drowns in all her clothes. She is crying out for help here.

ALL GOOD once she is snug in her car seat.

Welcome home Katelyn! We put her on the kitchen floor and Adam couldn't get enough of her. He wanted to hug her and kiss her and give her Goldfish and trucks. He kept trying to give her a pacifier and rock her.

He wanted to hold her too. So sweet.

Being at home with 2 is different especially since I don't quite feel like myself yet but I am so lucky to have such a wonderful husband that is very supportive. I also have an amazing mother and mother-in-law that are so helpful and supportive. Adam is learning how to be a big brother. One of the most challenging times is when I nurse Katelyn because Adam wants to be right there with us. He also has realized that when I feed Katelyn I can't discipline him because I am occupied. The other day he stood up, right in front of me, on the coffee table and smiled. What a stinker. I look forward to figuring out how this family of 4 is going to work and feeling more and more like myself everyday. The other night I put Katelyn in her crib and then went to tuck Adam into bed and I just felt so blessed to have 2 healthy sweet children. My heart just filled with warmth.

Choo-Choos and Naps!

Adam usually has a plan while he is playing. I love to just sit and watch his ideas unfold. The other day he was in the kitchen working very hard at moving all the chairs. I asked him, "What are you doing?" He looked at me very seriously and said, "Choo-Choo!"

Love that smile!

A well deserved nap after all that hard work!

Fun Stuff

Adam loves his daddy and wants to be just like him. I don't blame him, Kevin is a pretty wonderful guy! Adam insisted on having Mountain Dew just like Daddy, of course the can is not open and he is not allowed to have it but he is content with at least pretending to drink it just like Daddy!
What is Adam doing you may ask... pooping. This is Adam's new pooping spot. He will just all of a sudden disappear and this is the place you can find him with a pretty smelly diaper. I guess even 2 year olds need their privacy.

Adam got some Oreo dipping cookie sticks and LOVED them! A dessert that you can dip... YES!

Watching the Spartans with Daddy.

Adam LOVES the sink. He loves to wash dishes, play in the bubbles, whatever!

Visting with the Strausbaughs

We went over the Pat and Bethany's last weekend and got to see the beautiful addition they put on their home. We also got treated to a wonderful dinner! Adam and Charlotte got to play together and Adam got to play with their dog, Sammy!

Poor Sammy, he got hugged to death.

Adam and Charlotte got to sit at their own table!

Playing in the Snow

Kevin took Adam out in the snow last weekend. Adam was the most adventurous that he has been when it comes to playing in the deep snow.

He actually kept his gloves on... for the most part.

Adam's 2 Year Check Up

We took Adam to his 2-year check-up today. Everything looks good! We have a healthy little boy well except for the cold and cough he has right now. The most exciting thing is that he is done with all his vaccines. No more shots! Adam weighs 31 pounds and is 35 inches tall. He is in the 80th percentile for weight and 75th percentile for height. His next check-up is in June.

Baby Girl Updates

We are keeping the nursery "The Nursery." I am leaving up all of Adam's pictures and I will add Baby Girl's photos to the room. Everything was neutral for Adam so I just added a few pink accents for Baby Girl. In a couple years I will change the room to "Her Room" and make it fit her personality like Adam's big boy room fits his.

I went to my doctor's appointment today and everything looks good. Baby's head is down and the ultrasound showed that she weighs about 6 pounds and 7 ounces. I got a great 4-D photo of her today. You can actually see her eyes, nose and mouth. I asked the ultrasound tech if she saw any hair and she said, "If there is any it is peach fuzz." So it looks like we are going to have another bald baby! We still don't have a name for her yet. We are stuck on Brooke, Katelyn or Ashley. My due date is January 25th. My induction date is January 27th at 7am if she isn't here by then. I think she will be here before January 27th but we will see.

Because my mom had blood clots with all 3 of her pregnancies I am considered high risk so... I have to have 2 non-stress tests a week, a biophysical profile once a week (it's a quick ultrasound) and a doctor's appointment once a week. I take 2 shots a day of Heparin to thin my blood.

Watching my belly grow...

OH MY! Ready to POP at 9 months!

I have wonderful long term sub for my classroom! I plan on working until I have the baby and then I will come back to work April 1st, which is a Friday and a 1/2 day of school. It is also the Friday before our spring break. So I will come back for a 1/2 day, see the kids, figure out what I need to get ready and then take another week off at home.

Adam... Adam seems excited whenever we talk about "The Baby."
I think that he is really going to like the baby. Adam has never had any jealously issues with me holding other babies and he is not a clingy child so I think that he will be just fine. He loves his Daddy so much and Kevin is such a wonderful father that I know it will be a smooth transition. The biggest things I worry about are "When am I going to go into labor?" and "How do I take two kids out of the house at the same time?" Other than that... I don't have any worries. I can't wait for Baby Girl to get here. I can't wait to hold her and spend time at home with my baby girl and little boy.
